工学史料キュレーション事業について / About Project

2013（平成25）年度の工学・情報理工学図書館運営委員会において、工学史料の整理・所在調査を進める体制を作ることが了承されました。
背景としては、ある教員が、明治10年頃から蓄積された膨大な量の史料群が時代の経過により貴重なものと認識されないまま廃棄・散逸の危機にあることを懸念したものでした。

In AY2013 (Heisei 25), the Engineering and Information Science and Engineering Library Steering Committee approved the establishment of a system to organize and investigate the location of engineering historical materials.
The background was that a faculty member was concerned that the huge amount of historical materials accumulated from around the 10th year of the Meiji era was in danger of being discarded or dissipated without being recognized as valuable due to the passage of time.

ここから工学史料キュレーション事業が始まりました。この事業成果を、工学史料キュレーションデータベースとして公開を進めています。

The project of curating source materials for engineering history started from here. 
This project's results are being published as "Source materials for Engineering History: The University of Tokyo Digital Archive".

キュレーションという言葉は美術館や博物館、図書館の学芸員を意味する「curator/キュレーター」から来ていると言われていますが、現在では情報を選んで集めて整理すること、あるいは収集した情報を特定のテーマに沿って編集し、そこに新たな意味や価値を付与する作業を意味するようになってきています。
工学・情報理工学図書館では、単なるアーカイブを越えて工学史料をキュレーションすることを目指しており、その範囲は図書などの紙資料のみでなく、機器・写真・図面など幅広いものを対象にしています。工学史料の収集、整理、編集、展示などを通して、そのデータを利活用しやすい形で広く公開する活動に取り組んでいます。

Libraries for Engineering and Information Science & Technology aim to curate engineering historical materials beyond mere archives, and its scope covers not only paper materials such as books, but also a wide range of equipment, photographs, drawings, etc. Through collecting, organizing, editing, and exhibiting engineering historical materials, we are engaged in activities to widely disclose the data in a form that is easy to utilize.
